Gameserver Backend Improvements
A3 was originally released in 2002, so much of its backend was built for low-end, single-core servers running older operating systems and SDKs. As hardware and software have evolved, we recognized the need to modernize our infrastructure, migrating to multicore platforms and updating key components to take advantage of today’s performance, security, and compatibility improvements.
As of today’s maintenance window, we’ve upgraded our entire backend stack to the latest operating systems and SDKs. These changes will enhance security, ensure compatibility with modern environments, and deliver a smoother, more reliable experience for all players.

Networking and Server Setup Improvements
Over the years, we’ve continually modernized our networking stack to take advantage of faster connections and new networking features. When we launched the HD client, we completely redesigned the game’s network architecture to minimize latency. Because latency stems from the physical distance between a player and their chosen server, and is largely dictated by factors outside our control, like ISP peering agreements and infrastructure, we needed a solution that doesn’t rely on lower ping times alone.
To address this, our game now uses a fixed‐timer system for all in‐game actions (including attacks). No matter what a player’s ping is, the timers remain constant, so lag cannot alter the speed of gameplay.
At the same time, we’ve built a load‐balancing architecture that lets us host multiple servers worldwide. Players can connect to the server best suited to their location and needs. Currently, our regions are set up as follows:
Mania I – India
Mania II – South Korea
Mania III – Europe / UK (Launching Soon)
Mania IV – US / South America / Canada / Argentina (Launching Soon)
This regional structure ensures smoother connections and better overall performance for everyone.

Game Fixes
We have made the following fixes based on the bug reports we have received.
- Previously, only players who spent at least one Scepter to enter the relevant map could receive the Hamutz boss drop. However, players under Petrification or Incarceration could remain in the map, defeat the boss without having used a Scepter, and still be ineligible for the drop. We’ve fixed this by updating the game server’s handling of characters affected by monster skills: at the start of the Hamutz boss event, all affected players are automatically returned to town. From then on, players must spend a Scepter to re-enter the map and qualify for the boss drop.
