frm wat knowledge i hav of the pings n latency...no matter how big or how better or how fast ur connection is..ur route is one of the most important thng... !

The faster the connection..might jsut lower ur pings by some amount...not that much.. !

But the route plays an important part.. !

n bout the data card..i havnt used one kabhi bhi.. :| !!

a slower connection will giv high pings , bt faster connection will giv yu only decent pings unless the route is proper... n i got no idea abt data cards

Not correct. Ping is independent on the Connection Speed.

Exactly...ive tried using 1mbps connections after 256kbps one's....but the only difference i got was some 4-5ms lowerin of pings...thats it..the route matters alot.. !

sm1 said dat coz in data card air is d medium d transmission of packets is slower bt d higher band width is coz of large amounts of packet transmission so streaming is fast.. but fr a3mania kind of online games wr packets r less only d transmission speed counts smthing like dis anybody can shed sm light on dis?

Ping is a computer network administration utility used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an Internet Protocol (IP) network and to measure the round-trip time for packets sent from the local host to a destination computer, including the local host's own interfaces.

It is independent of the speed of ur connection. You cannot reduce the distance of data travel. :(

Yea :) ..u acnt as it is reduce the distance unless u shift or the other comp shifts :P .!

but the Route on which ur signals travel matters :) !!

@ GM

but whnver i ping any website or even the A3 server... it shows higher pings if my downloads r on... i mean my bandwidth is gettin shared n so is the speed.... n hence the pings i guess

the prob wid data cards is connectivity.. at my place tata photon disconnects very often... it gives speed as mentioned... but yu dun wanna get DCed while playin A3... so better ask ppl in yur area abt its service... n thn if ne of yur frandz hav tht card go over n get the trace route n ping test done

What is the technology that BSNL data card uses? It depends on the technology. If its GPRS or EDGE, you will have a really bad day ingame.

how can a data card use a modem? ther is also broadband conn available by BSNL over phone line which requires a modem/router n can be misused by others very easily
