Player gets exp when merc hunts

With merc hunting in "Attack closest enemy" mode, player does not gain exp. In other 2 modes of merc hunting player gets exp. Isn't it?
whenever i keep a level 1 char with merc on "Attach Closest Enemy" mode and some other player comes near me, i automatically start getting exp.
Is this some bug or what? GM sir can u look into this pls.

I got this... I had the same problem...My lvl 1 char got 30 levels when I kept my merc on the "Attack closest Enemy" mode.
The chars start gaining exp only when they are in close proximity to another char which is hunting? Should it be this way?
Someone cares to explain this phenomenon or bug

It is like.... ur merc should be able to kill the creep in 1 shot... if not then u'll gain exp when any other char comes near you...
