i see there are many misconceptions here ..
1st - maxing evasion has absolutely no effect on the prbabality of crits.. it effects the probabality of evading enemy damage(i.e. how many times he misses on u). but this is totally waste against weapons having ignore evasion option(eg. grahsat)
2nd - mercs do increase damage of a successfull crit by 500 on players. best way to see this is- tell any non aura char to hit an aura5(naked) char wit weapon like grahsat, u ll see normal shots of 10-20 range and crit of 540-550 range. now grahsat will not give 200% increase in crit

3rd - this is the most common difficulty most pple have.. but this can be explained to only those who have studied 'Probabality' in Maths.. all the options that exits in A3 are based on the rule of probability. wat i mean to say is that if u have 70% crit evasion, that means with every time sum1 hits u ,u have a probability of 70% to make him miss a crit.. but this probability is 70% for each shot individually and not collectively ,i mean if sum1 hits u 10 shots n u have 70% crit evasion this doesnt mean u'll get only 30% crit n 70% non crit.. its simply just that all option apply for each shot individually.. so its quite possible that u might get continuous 2-3 shots crit even if ur crit evasion is as high as 80%(this is wat happened wit you). But if u play a long battle in which huge no. of shots are inflicted then law of average cms in i.e. wat ever ur option is u ll see the result like that, suppose wit the same above eg: if 70% crit evasion person gets hit by 1000 shots then most likely the crits will be around 30% of 1000 n non crits near to 70%. Just another simple way to understand is if u throw a dice ,probability of getting 6 on dice is 1/6th, but if u throw dice for just 2-3 times its possible that u get 6 all the time.. but same dice if u throw 100 times u ll see almost always ratio of getting 6 on dice will be near to 1/6th.
So the inference is that anyone can get continuous crits no matter how high ur crit evasion is, not always this will happen but it might happen.. this wat happened wit u Patchy and + he had KW and larcs + merc + distractions in map .. whereas in arena u dont have KW or Merc which makes a huge diff..
Guys all the eg i have mentioned above ,i have just considered oneside option that is only crit evasion of the 1 getting hit, but there are other facters also like opponents crit rate so the probability equations become much more complex..
